The Counter-Intelligence Unit of Punjab Police has successfully dismantled a drug trafficking network connected to Pakistan, apprehending two associates and seizing four kilograms of heroin. This information was disclosed by an official on Sunday.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the arrested individuals have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, also known as Tony, from Attari in Amritsar, and Pawanbir Singh from Basarke Bhaini in Amritsar. In addition to the heroin, the police also confiscated the motorcycle used by the duo to transport the drugs.
The DGP further revealed that the investigation indicated the suspects were operating under the direction of a trafficker named Rana King, who resides in Pakistan. King reportedly employs drones to drop drug shipments across the border.
Providing more details, the official noted that the Counter-Intelligence Unit received specific intelligence regarding a significant quantity of drugs being smuggled from the border area. Based on this tip-off, a police team set up a trap and intercepted the two suspects near Manu Hospital as they were en route to deliver the narcotics in the Cheherhta area. The investigation is ongoing, with expectations of further arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
